2021 Olk Elk “Elkmer T. Lee” 5yr 111.4°
Nose: A soft nose with a tinge of back spice. The smell reminds me of rice cook, the point where it is almost done, but not quite there – an air of miss with a moisten sense combined with a wet rye feeling—a subtle sweetness.
Palate: Nectars-ish sweetness complemented with a slight bit of spice and heat. Diverse but balanced. I can almost imagine a holiday feeling around a flame in the warmth of a house. The flavor lingers much longer than one may expect – not an overwhelming sense, but a thinner line like a mist that encapsulates quite a bit. After a few sips, the heat and flavor build and more to a spicier element. Thoughts of pepper come to mind with a little bit of smokey burnt element that creates a note of bitterness to linger on.
Verdict: Much more diverse than I was expecting with flavor that expresses a bit of complexity for one to think on - solid drinker, especially when it is cold outside and the holiday spirit was coming.
