2026 Wild Turkey Goil Foil 16yr 120.0°

Nose: Dry fruit with some baking spices.  It tingles the nose a little bit, not with the heat, but tickling of the nose-hair.  It feels rich and sweet, something to be enjoyed at an elegant dinner. Sweetness with a dusty backdrop that reminds me of one being thirsty and looks up at the desert’s sun and the sun’s dust seems to create a blur.  Amid that, there is a spiciness and oakiness intertwined with the sweetness that places me to a rickhouse.

Palate:  An immediate concentrated sweetness – I had a notion of rootbeer float.  The sweetness is deep, ingrained.  The core of sweetness is surrounded by a lot of spice.  The spice numbs the sides of the jaw and perk the cheeks up a little.  The sweetness continues on the second sip and continues building. A notion of being a top of the mountain passes my mind – the air seems to have thinned down and I suddenly was forced to focus on the immense palate.  The immensity of it allows for good heat manipulation.  By taking a sip and drawing air in slowly (I call this funneling), it drastically elevates the heat profile.  Funneling the spirit changes to a more concentrated experience – the color gold flashes into a laser. Then the dankiness of the cellar comes; that familiar funk one generally associate with the heyday of Cheesy Gold Foil.

Verdict:  A great homage to the legacy of Wild Turkey’s hey day of 12yr 101 proof.  The days of Chessy Gold Foil, Beyond Duplication, Split Label, Unilabel and beyond.  Bruce did a great job of packaging and presentation for the re-release.  The beautiful rustic, brownish, amber color is augmented well with the tube and Autumn tone.  Well done.
