2021 Ladies Man Derby

2021 Ladies Man Derby | 7.5-year old Rye Whiskey Finished in a French Cognac Cask

MGP | 111.0°

Nose: A slight spice in the front intertwined with a little bit of sweetness.

There is a smell that reminds me of rice that has just been cooked – the smell when you open the cooker immediately after the rice is ready.  A soft sweetness to follow with a slight yellow-green hue that reminds me of meandering through a park.  The spiciness seems to peak more and more as you return for the second or third nosing.

Palate:  A lot of front in sweetness with the rye characteristics to the back.  The palate is deeper than I thought it would be.  A warm heat rises from it.  A taste the reminds me of hay, notes of farm life characteristics.  An intermingling of sweetness and spiciness that is more balanced than thought.  A raspberry-like finish to end cap it off.  It reminds me of drinking a refined red wine that seems to exhibit a bit of class.

Verdict:  Solid item – I could come back to this and enjoy it quite a bit after a solid meal.
