Nose: The front has slight-spicy rye feel followed by a soft sweetness. The apple life feeling comes in the backdrop.
The spice seems to build on the backdrop that reminds me of a wheat field with the sun shining on a nice summer day. A streak of light yellowish green comes to mind as one thinks about it a little more.
Palate: The front is a crisp sweetness – refreshing as if one just drank a cool drink after being in the heat too long in the sun’s heat. There is a pleasant front-end sweetness that balances out the fundamental rye characteristics. The palate builds on the foundation of sweetness and the grassier notes come out.
The thought of eating a crisp green apple comes to mind – not the overly sweet type like Fuji, but the one with a good bit of tart as well as sweetness, maybe a Granny Smith. As you sip a third time, a tinge of oak comes to bring us back to the tree itself. The color of this juice is a little darker – indicative of something more refined.
The sweetness builds – making the mid-palate deepen with diversity.
Verdict: I’d imagine looking at a grown apple tree as the sunsets in the background – if one were to capture that in a pour, Angel Envy Ice Cider would personify that. The turquoise-like color box coupled with the frosted look on the bottle makes this a special addition to the bourbon world! A great pour that can be easily enjoyed at any time.
