2020 Old Forester 150th Batch 3 | 126.8°
Nose: A rich ebullient nose with layered sweetness with a sense of something you could get at the State fair – something fried. A second sniff brings in a sheet of sweet tea that brings with it a soft spice that warms you. The last sniff brings with it a slight sourness. A very inviting nose that keeps you curious.
Palate: A citrusy front dominates the palate and immediately expands into the whole mouth. Slight bitterness comes – not in an off-putting way. A second sip brings out characteristics of dark chocolate with more depths of spice. The proof of these items shows as the warmth of it begins to set as one sip even further. A lot of grassiness comes towards the ends – so much going on in this mixture of flavors. The items seem to stick around and remain sticky to one’s mouth, refusing to finish.
The flavor seems to recede eventually like the sun’s light that slowly leaves your house as the day is over.
Verdict: I feel there is a love-hate relationship with this bottle.
It is so different that I almost forget that it is bourbon... The flavor is intense and so many depths that make me want to go back for more… Interesting.
